Third straight day of gains as banks soar
It was a strong day of trading on the ASX200 today as investors looked to the banks after a relatively business-focused budget report was released by Frydenberg last night. The market finished up 74.30 points (1.30%) to reach its highest close in a month of 6036.30.
Westpac was triumphant over the other three banks, enjoying the largest gain of 2.58%. ANZ and CBA were not far behind, adding 2.35% and 2.15% respectively.
Gainers and Losers
The biggest gainers were:
- Virgin Money UK +6.3% to $1.45
- Eagers Automotive +5.3% to $11.15
- Seven Group Holdings +5.2% to $20
- Cleanaway Waste Management +4.8% to $2.20
- Zip Co +4.7% to $7.29
The biggest declines were:
- Newcrest Mining -2.1% to $30.40
- Healius -2% to $3.47
- Resolute Mining -1.6% to 95c
- Mesoblast -1.5% to $3.36
- Avita Therapeutics -1.3% to $6.91
