ASX climbs 0.8% with banks and mining leading charge

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 share index added 0.8% today to reach 6,818 points as banks and the mining sector rallied, lifting the index.

The major banks all ended in the green today with ANZ and NAB leading the way, up 2.49% and 1.74% respectively.

Materials also surged with BHP (up 3.54%), RIO (2.02%) and NCM (1.64%) all building on their previous days share price throughout the session.
