Market finishes 1.3% higher closing above 6600 points

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 share index closed 1.3% higher today to reach 6644.10 points as another 9-month high is reached.

The banks wasted no time continuing their rally after a flat session yesterday with ANZ up 3.10% and Westpac (WBC) up 2.61%.

BHP and Woodside Petroleum (WPL) also finished well in the green, up 3.37% and 2.96% respectively.

• Beach Energy +8.2%
• URW +7.3%
• Whitehaven Coal +6.9%
• Janus Henderson Group +5.8%
• Challenger +5.5%

The biggest declines were:

• Silver Lake -9.4%
• Saracen -9%
• Northern Star -8.9%
• Evolution Mining -8.4%
• Perseus Mining -7.6%
